The Indian Premier League (IPL) has returned with a new graphics look this year, and the 2021 event is AE Live (AE) ’s twelfth consecutive tournament delivering broadcast solutions for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
AE’s in-house creative team has worked closely with the BCCI to produce a fresh style for 2021, with the design taking inspiration from graphics used on online games. Central to the new look is the dark treatment of heavy metallic shapes, as well as team colour-based mood lighting, which act as a bridge between the real and virtual world.
On-site, AE has three crews consisting of six staff members delivering the world feed match and presentation graphics at all six venues. In addition to this, AE will be delivering augmented reality content on Spidercam, virtual placement graphics and the six tracker, as well as in-venue big-screen content.
AE has also introduced a completely new concept this year in the form of side panel graphics. AE will be delivering a range of data-rich graphics that make use of the previously unutilised space that the result of the constraints of delivering 4:3 output safe graphics. HD viewers of the IPL will see a range of graphics on the far sides of their screens, helping to add an extra layer of storytelling to the production.
Away from venues, AE will also be delivering a range of services remotely for Star Sports India. Based at Star’s production hubs, 10 AE staff members will be delivering presentation graphics and a further five feeds, which include multi-language graphics in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
