BBC Sport’s ground-breaking 360-degree virtual football studio was designed by our dedicated creative team. The concept is based on a bespoke BBC Sport football stadium hosting each of their four distinct weekly shows and is housed in dock10’s facility in Salford.
The designs have been realised using the Unreal gaming engine and real-time compositor Zero Density, creating a photo realistic studio environment. All foreground augmented reality graphics are also being generated within the Unreal/ZD workflow, made possible by AE’s suite of control and data management applications developed specifically for this project.
We have worked with the AE team for many years across multiple projects, most recently the graphics delivery for our football studios in Moscow for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and our completely virtual set for our football coverage in Salford. Their creative team designed the virtual set and also play a key role in the ongoing development and data integration required to produce shows on a weekly basis.
Our team created the virtual set designs for all four weekend shows: Match of the Day, Match of the Day 2, Football Focus and Final Score, which are all produced from the same studio.
We have a dedicated team based in Salford to work across all of BBC Sport’s football output, ensuring a consistent graphics delivery and familiarity for BBC Sport’s production team.
